Metropolis 12 is part of the series “Metropolis” that explores in a highly abstracted form the relationship between humans and the cities most of us live in. I finished painting it at the start of the second wave of covid-19 in the UK, a time of great uncertainty and for many people hardship. Unlike most of the paintings in this series, Metropolis 12 is more like a bird’s eye view of a city. It was painted over a period of a few years and a variety of techniques were used to apply the paint. There are areas of metallic copper and silver paint which give it an added vibrancy.
Metropolis 12 has sold to a collector in New York, but if you like it I can paint something similar but still unique.
