In 1887 Louis Anquetin painted a street scene in the Avenue de Clichy in Paris. The title of the painting was ‘L’ Avenue de Clichy, cinq heures du soir, 1887′. The painting is in the early Cloissonist style, favoured by Louis Anquetin and Emile Bernard. The Cloissonist style uses flat areas of colour and bold outlines of shapes. In the original painting a lot of the colours are blues and purples. I have replaced these with yellows, oranges and reds, but it is still identifiable as a street scene, just a bit more brightly lit.
We have it hanging on a red wall and it looks amazing. It probably needs quite a small wall, or small space on a wall as the painting is only 40 cm high by 30 cm wide. It is painted on canvas that is stretched over an internal wooden frame and is ready to hang.
