Thaw is my artist’s homage to a lovely 1897 painting called “Thaw in Gatchina” by Richard Bergholz. Gatchina is a town in Russia about 45 km south of St Petersburg. I kept the main compositional elements but did not copy the details from the original work. I love the contrast between the bridge and the snow and birch trees. It would look great in a variety of settings, from an old house to an apartment. It is ready to hang.
‘Thaw’ has sold to a collector in the UK, but you can commission a similar painting at a size that you choose.
