Free Spirit is a sepia acrylic ink painting of a herring gull soaring over the sea at Downderry, in Cornwall, UK. A small amount of white ink was also used in the painting. The photo it is based on was taken by me when the light on the sea near the horizon was intense, causing immense variations in the appearance of the sea. I thought this would look best as a monochrome painting. It gives a feeling of freedom and hope, even though it was painted whilst the UK was in lockdown. It is on watercolour paper and will need to be framed before it can be hung.
