This lovely ink drawing has sold to someone who got engaged at Wheal Coates, so it meant a lot to her. I can do a similar painting on a commission basis if you want, no obligation to purchase.
It shows one of the engine houses at the Wheal Coates mine in Cornwall. I drew it in September 2020 during a brief stay nearby. That part of the Cornish coast has stunning scenery and an amazing mining history. The word “Wheal” is Cornish for “a place of work” and was used for all the mines in Cornwall. Wheal Coates was mainly a tin mine but also produced copper. In 2006 Wheal Coates became part of the UNESCO World Heritage site “Cornwall and West Devon Mining Landscape”.
